Well...it's been almost four months since my initial writing. I officially suck at this! I could start rattling off excuses like my seven month old twins, my three year old, my thirteen year old, our rental house that we have been trying to prepare for the market, or my time consuming job....but I won't.
I give us a C- so far on our simpler living. We will do excellent one day and eat only those things straight from gods green earth, and the next day I am scarfing a McDonald's cheeseburger w/ a side of grease. Being a minimalist is complicated and time consuming. There are so many "convenient" chooses in today's world and eating simpler takes careful planning and consideration. The irony in all this is head spinning!
I hear these stories of Wall Street bankers who take their families out into the woods and live TV and caffeine free and my stomach churns. Oh how I wish I could follow suit. So many questions...what about school for my kids? How would we eat in the winter? How long does it take to make beer?
In the end, we have made positive strides towards our goal of living better and more responsibly. That's good enough for me for now. We will see where tomorrow brings us.......

Boo!
This scares me! I have spent my life saying only a fraction of what I think and now I will be putting these thoughts out there for the world to see. While I am sure 99.99999999% of the world is not interested the few who are make me squirm.
Emma (my wife) thought this blog was a good idea. It will be about my family and our attempt to live a minimalist life eating and consuming for the sake of health, happiness, and the improvement of our world and society for our children's futures. Sounds pretty easy right? We shall see....
This all started with an NPR interview with France Moore Lappe. She threw out some amazing stats about the worlds food production and some misconceptions most of have about why people are starving in the world. I ran by the library the next day to check out "Diet for a Small Planet". My wife and I became consumed with the idea of "voting with our dollar" and decided that January 1, 2010 we would try to change the way we consume for many different reasons.
Here we go.
